George Young, geboren am 6. November 1946 in Glasgow, Schottland, ist jetzt 70-jährig, am 22. Oktober 2017 gestorben. George Young war ein australischer Rockmusiker, The Easybeats, Gitarrist, Songschreiber und Produzent. Die Todesurache wird von der Familie als privat zurückgehalten.

Anfang der 1960er wanderte die Familie Young von Schottland nach Australien aus. In Sydney wurde George Young Mitglied der erfolgreichsten australischen Band der 1960er, The Easybeats. George Young schrieb zunächst zusammen mit Stevie Wright später mit Harry Vanda die meisten Songs der Gruppe, darunter den Welthit Friday on my Mind sowie Who’ll be the one you love und Good Times.

Ende 1966 gingen die Easybeats nach London. 1969 löste sich die Band auf. Vanda und Young blieben als Songschreiber und Produzenten aktiv, u. a. für John Paul Young (Love Is in the Air), Def Leppard (High N’ Dry) und vor allem für AC/DC. Vanda und Young gründeten zusammen das Bandprojekt Flash and the Pan, das einige Hits hatte. Nach 1986 traten die Easybeats im Rahmen des Revival-Booms wieder auf.

Youngs jüngerer Bruder Malcolm war und sein Bruder Angus ist Mitglied der Rockband AC/DC.
